“Treatment is key when cancer weaves its way into our life, but emotional well-being is just as vital. This is why I support the Foundation and take its mission to heart.”
Marie-Claude, head of a company in the field of sustainable development, discovered she had breast cancer in 2013, when she was but 32 years old. After hearing about the Quebec Cancer Foundation from a friend, Marie-Claude contacted the organization and was thrilled to benefit from various services, such as massage therapy, oncology yoga and art-therapy. Offered at affordable or no cost, these activities greatly contributed to her well-being during this ordeal.
After undergoing treatment for one year and being told that she was cured, Marie-Claude got actively involved with the Foundation.
In 2015, I became a volunteer and I contributed to the Foundation’s corporate campaign. When I thought back to all of the support I’d received, raising funds seemed essential to me so that others like me could also benefit from the Foundation’s services.”
In February of 2020, Marie-Claude was struck with what initially appeared to be pneumonia but was ultimately diagnosed with another cancer, this one more aggressive:
“Learning that you have stage 4 metastatic cancer disrupts everything in your world, especially when you realize that there is no cure. Turning to the Foundation to benefit from its services once again, brought me some comfort. I developed a wonderful relationship with the team, whom I soon thought of as my second family.”
In 2022, Marie-Claude will be an ambassador for La marche du Grand défoulement in Quebec City for the second year in a row.
La marche is the perfect occasion to mobilize those close to you and invite them to donate to the Foundation. It might seem peculiar, but for people with cancer, walking is sometimes very hard to do. So, walking on behalf of everyone who finds it difficult is very symbolic,” she specified.
“Treatment is key when cancer weaves its way into our life, but emotional well-being is just as vital. This is why I support the Foundation and take its mission to heart. With its services, the Foundation offers a precious support to everyone who deal with cancer on a daily basis. Participating in La marche and raising funds on behalf of the Foundation is a way for me to give back a part of what I was blessed to have enjoyed.”
