Testimonials

Relive the experiences described in the inspiring stories told by people close to the foundation.

« La marche du Grand défoulement is a way of being part of something greater than oneself, of standing with those who must deal this terrible disease every single day. »

Geneviève Rheault is a 38-year-old municipal councillor in Granby, where she is responsible for the city’s social development and quality of life.

Dedicated to the cancer cause since several years, Geneviève takes on the role of ambassador for La marche du Grand défoulement in Granby in 2022.

“I’ve been lucky to date, for none of my friends, family or beloved ones has been touched by cancer. Yet when I consider the statistics, especially the one explaining that one out of every two Quebecers will find themselves facing cancer one day, I get chills at the thought that this ‘one person’ will likely be myself, a friend, a family member or a colleague. Cancer is a disease that can strike anyone, anywhere and at any point in time.”

Geneviève is especially moved by the Foundation’s mission as well as the wide range of services it offers to those whose lives have been upended by cancer.

When I truly see, mostly due to my involvement in different initiatives for this cause, the havoc that cancer can wreak on a person’s life, it is comforting to know that the Foundation is here to help them. Its role is crucial, as it offers concrete support - in a multitude of ways - to people living with cancer and their loved ones.”

Between May 9 and September 24 of this year, Geneviève will be raising funds and proudly participating in La marche du Grand défoulement in Granby, as she wants to raise awareness of the disease and its social impacts into the community.

“Taking on the role of ambassador for La marche du Grand défoulement is essentially a matter of social stakes. I look at it as an opportunity to mobilize people, to make them aware that cancer has a far greater reach in all of our lives than we might imagine. It’s also a way of being part of something greater than oneself, of standing with those who must deal this terrible disease every single day.”
