Quebec, June 13, 2017 - Twenty walkers arrived to the end of the way on Sunday, June 11, after a 200 km walk. Tired but proud of their feat, they received a warm welcome from their loved ones and friends at the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.

A physical, emotional and rewarding challenge

Full of hope, they left from the Our Lady of the Cape Shrine in Trois-Rivières to begin this challenge to pay tribute to someone afflicted with cancer or to attest to their own experience with the disease. From June 3 to 11, the walkers followed a route that runs parallel to the Saint Lawrence river from Trois-Rivières to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. Breathtaking scenery avec accompanied them. “I qualify this week as a gift-week. Since this is a real gift that we give us when participating to this kind of feat. I wish many others will get the chance to experience it in the next years!”, expressed Louise Cloutier, upon her arrival.

The Chemin des sanctuaires, Quebec’s version of the Camino de Santiago, is an activity that last year was for the first time integrated within the Quebec Cancer Foundation’s Grand défoulement campaign, whose aim is to raise funds to help Quebecers with cancer and their families. It’s a challenge that is at the same time physical, emotional and rewarding, and contributes to the mission of the Quebec Cancer Foundation. This year, close to $32,000 was raised in contributions. To donate.

The Quebec Cancer Foundation’s Grand défoulement

Throughout the year, but especially in June, the Quebec Cancer Foundation encourages the entire population of Quebec to let off steam and give expression their feelings by organizing or participating in an event or by making a donation. Depending on individual tastes and interests, “letting off steam” can take the form of a bike challenge, a giant yoga session, a golf tournament, a pillow fight or the creation of a collective work of art. The organizers will support you at every step. No time? No ideas? No problem! You can make a donation or take part in an existing défoulement event: you’re sure to find one taking place in your neighbourhood! However you participate, you’ll be making a real difference in the life of someone affected by cancer. For more details, visit: www.granddefoulement.ca
