Montreal, November 1, 2017 – In the 8th edition of Compostelle en tandem, 24 participants undertook the nearly 200 km walk. They assumed this personal challenge mindful of the hardships faced daily by people affected by cancer. In collaboration with the tour operator of Buen Camino sur les chemins de La Tienda, this Quebec Cancer Foundation fundraising activity brought a group of pilgrims to O Porriño à Muxia before setting off on the Spanish portion of the mythical Way to Compostela. Thanks to these walkers, and all those who supported them, nearly $53,000 has been raised in support of the thousands of Quebecers with cancer, and their families.

The 200 km pilgrimage gave walkers lots of opportunity for introspection. Lisa Mercier shared: “The observation I made, while walking among beautiful landscapes marked by the tranquility that emanates from the Way to Compostela, is that my life was going too fast and that I forgot the essential. Like others, I came back changed, and happy to have at the same time supported the people affected by cancer.”

About Compostelle en tandem

Compostelle en tandem is a charity walk organized by the Quebec Cancer Foundation, that brings together a group of pilgrims who make the legendary journey for a sense of personal achievement while raising funds to support people with cancer and their families.

Since 2010, walkers of every kind have been involved with the Quebec Cancer Foundation, amassing over $650,000. Some did this to fulfil a personal goal while supporting a good cause, while others did it to celebrate their own victory over cancer or to honor someone else affected by the disease.

There's still time to show your support for one of these walkers!
