The Quebec Cancer Foundation cancer is pursuing its objective of serving new territories by now offering free transportation to patients of the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital in Laval who are lodged at its Montreal accommodation centre. This new service is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the CISSS des Laurentides and the CISSS de Laval.
On August 4, the Foundation hosted Ms. France Robillard for a period of four weeks. During this time, Ms. Robillard, who is a patient at the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital in Laval, is able to benefit from the new transportation service.
Upon receiving her diagnosis for breast cancer, this resident of Mont-Laurier in the Laurentians was transferred to the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital, where she had to undergo radiation treatment for one month.
Ms. Robitaille had initially considered staying with her aunts in Saint-Jérôme, which is almost an hour’s drive from the hospital. Then, through her pivot nurse, she learned about the Foundation and its lodging services.
"Every day, the Foundation driver who takes me to my treatments waits for me at the hospital to take me back to the Foundation. I feel pampered! I had seen on the Internet that the Foundation also offers complementary services such as art therapy, massage therapy and kinesiology. I went ahead and signed up. It was the first time in my life that I had tried it and I really enjoyed it! " Ms. Robillard said.
This new collaboration with the CISSS de Laval and CISSS des Laurentides allows the Foundation to get closer to every Quebecer who needs it most and thereby fulfill its mission.
The Foundation is still working on other projects that will permit it serve even more regions and be ever closer to the people who need its support in their everyday lives.
