Have you ever thought of all the people your generosity could help?

Making a donation is a significant gesture. This is why the Quebec Cancer Foundation awards the honorary titles of Philanthropist or Builder of Hope to the most committed donors, to ensure that their generosity is celebrated.

Philanthropists’ Circle

This group is made up of individuals, foundations and corporations who have made a cumulative donation of more than $4,000, or who have made a formal commitment to do so. These major donors are distinguished by their extraordinary dedication, and the Foundation wishes to thank each of them.

They are pioneers, pathfinders and visionaries: ambassadors who have demonstrated an exceptional degree of loyalty and generosity.

The members of the Philanthropists’ Circle enjoy full recognition:
  • their names are published in the Philanthropists’ Circle directory unless directed otherwise. We believe this is important, and will inspire others to make a similar gesture.
  • they will be invited to a members-only recognition cocktail.
  • they are invited to networking events such as lectures, luncheon meetings and / or other prestigious events
Thank you to our Philanthropists!

The Builders of Hope Circle

The aim of the Circle is to recognize each donor who chose the Quebec Cancer Foundation in their estate planning, either through a bequest or any other form of planned gift. These builders wish to extend their support on a continual basis to those affected by cancer.

Through their commitment, they perpetuate their values, thereby providing an essential resource for all Quebecers who are affected by this disease.
Members of the Builders of Hope Circle receive recognition upon informing the Quebec Cancer Foundation of their donation or their intention to donate.

Their names are published in the Builders of Hope directory, unless otherwise directed. We believe this is inspiring and will encourage others to do likewise.
  • they will be invited to a members-only recognition cocktail.
  • they are invited to networking events such as lectures, luncheon meetings and / or other prestigious events.
Thank you to our Builders of Hope!

An endowment fund is a contribution whose initial capital is invested in perpetuity or for a period of 10 years. Only the interest generated by the investment is used to maintain the quality of services offered by the Quebec Cancer Foundation in all of its centres across Quebec, based on priority needs.

The capital for the endowment fund can come from various sources:
  • Cash donations
  • Donations of securities (shares, bonds)
  • Donations by bequest
  • Life insurance policies
  • A combination of donations
  • A named fund
You can create a named fund on behalf of a loved one or in your own name that reflects your aspirations and values.
  • The donation must be at least $10,000. It can come from a single donor, a group of donors or a family. The amount can be invested over many years.
  • A named fund can be established in the donor’s name or in the memory of someone to be honoured.
  • A named fund can also be set up following an official pledge:
    • The donor pledges a minimal amount through a bequest, life insurance policy or any other type of charitable gift.
    • The donor pledges to give $2,000 a year for five years.

It is possible to designate a charitable organization as the beneficiary of the death benefit of an insurance policy.

Here are two ways of giving without penalizing your heirs:

  • The insurance policy is surrendered to the Quebec Cancer Foundation, which becomes the owner and beneficiary of the policy. Every year, you pay the premium directly to the insurer. The latter confirms the amount of the payment to the Quebec Cancer Foundation, which issues a tax receipt for the donation. This can be used to offset your annual income tax assessment.
  • The Foundation is designated as beneficiary of the life insurance policy: the death benefit is received as a donation. The Foundation issues a tax receipt to the donor’s estate. The estate can use the receipt as a 100% deductible tax credit. Any excess amount may be applied to the year preceding the death of the insurance policy owner.
For more information or to make a life insurance donation, contact us at 514 527-2194 or toll-free, at 1 877 336-4443.

Do you own any shares, mutual funds, bonds and/or any other securities that you would like to donate to the Quebec Cancer Foundation?

A gift of securities allows you to pay no tax on the taxable portion of your capital gains. In order to benefit from this tax credit, the securities must be transferred directly to the Quebec Cancer Foundation rather than being sold. It’s a tax advantage that will benefit you.

A receipt for tax purposes will be issued, corresponding to 100% of the fair market value of the securities on the day they are transferred to the account of the Quebec Cancer Foundation. The shares can be transferred electronically; simply request the form for this purpose.

What types of securities may be donated?

  • shares
  • savings bonds
  • mutual funds

A bequest is one of the simplest and easiest ways of planning a donation. Once you have ensured that your family and loved ones have been taken care of, you can choose to leave a portion of your estate to the Quebec Cancer Foundation by including us in your will.

There are several ways of making a bequest:

  • the specific bequest (a specific amount or a specified asset);
  • the residual bequest (all or a percentage of the remainder of the estate after the payment of debts and specific bequests);
  • the universal bequest (all of the assets, sometimes divided among many beneficiaries);
  • the designation of a charity as beneficiary of an RRSP, a pension fund or a life insurance policy.
In each case, a tax receipt will be issued for the purposes of the donor’s final tax return, following his death. The tax benefits from charitable bequests can dramatically reduce the taxes to be paid out by the estate.
